The AMC Broadway 16 at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina has closed.
Located on the southeast side of the tourist destination which also contains escape games, miniature golf, and a wax museum, as well as restaurants and shops, the movie theater was previously known as the Carmike Broadway 17 until AMC acquired Carmike Cinemas in 2016.
The naming of the theater was somewhat confusing, since the 17 implied screens included a "BigD" large-screen theater (formerly known as the Myrtle Beach IMAX 3D Theatre), which closed in 2017. The theater kept the "17" designation in some places nonetheless.
Update: One of our readers found a photo on Google Maps that shows the entrance of the movie theater from October 2017, where the sign has a big "16" in the center, so we've updated the theater's final name to AMC Broadway 16. Thanks to Ron H. for sending this to us!
Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Cinemark at Myrtle Beach and the Stone Theatres - Grand 14 at Market Commons. Of course, AMC would like everyone to visit the AMC Classic Myrtle Beach 12, which is about ten miles up the coastline on Highway 17.
