The Entergy Giant Screen Theater at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans, Louisiana has been decommissioned and is part of a larger renovation at the aquarium that will house a new Butterfly Garden and Insectarium.

Like most theaters around the country, the theater and the aquarium closed in March 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. When the aquarium reopened in July 2020, the theater did not, and the news of its fate was found in an announcement about the Butterfly Garden and Insectarium dated September 5, 2020. However, the theater was marked as "temporarily closed" as of December.

To have a record of what the theater looked like, we have photos of the theater on its Photo Gallery page. If you have memories of attending this theater, please feel free to leave a message on the Reader Comments page!

The theater originally opened October 6, 1996 as the Entergy IMAX - Aquarium of the Americas. It dropped the IMAX branding in 2015 or 2016.

According to the theater's page on the aquarium's website, it was playing Dinosaurs of Antarctica when it closed. We're not sure if it played non-documentary movies at all.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters. Nearby IMAX screens can be found at the AMC Westbank Palace 16 in Harvey, AMC Elmwood Palace 20 in Hanrahan, and the AMC Clearview Palace 12 in Metairie. We don't believe that there are any giant-screen theaters within 50 miles of New Orleans playing documentary movies, such as what the Entergy Giant Screen Theater was playing.
