The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Lower Manhattan in New York City will be opening Monday, October 18, 2021.

It will be a "soft opening" that will run from the 18th through the 21st, where the staff will get some on-the-job training and moviegoers will be able to enjoy discounted food and non-alchoholic drinks.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is operating the 14-screen theater, which is located in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan at 28 Liberty Street. It is in Sub-Basement 2 and Sub-Basement 3 of the building, which can be accessed via escalators and elevators from the lobby.

The company also operates the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Downtown Brooklyn, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Staten Island (coming in 2022), and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Yonkers in Yonkers, as well as many locations around the country. The chain is one of the original "dinner and a movie" chains, and it's notorious for its no talking/no texting policy.

Alamo announced the news of the Manhattan location's opening recently on its website:

“The last eighteen months have been a rollercoaster for our industry, but through it all we’ve believed in the future of this industry,” says Alamo Drafthouse CEO Shelli Taylor. “Opening our Lower Manhattan theater is an expression of our belief that audiences will always seek elevated, communal moviegoing experiences like ours.”

The opening couldn't come at a better time in 2021, as audiences are returning to theaters in droves after the pandemic shut down most theaters around the country in March 2020 and forced movie studios to reshuffle their release schedules. Some theaters didn't make it through, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema declared bankruptcy in March 2021. The success of recent releases are showing the desire of people to go out to the movies, and it's always good to see new locations open to thrill audiences for two hours of escapism.

The theater features something they are calling "The Press Room," which is a museum, a letterpress print shop, a bar, and a space for private events. The bar will serve 48 draft beers in addition to traditional and original cocktails, wines, and more.

Moviegoers will be able to order from an extensive menu that includes appetizers such as bottomless popcorn and loaded fries, salads, entrees that include chicken tenders, fish and chips, and a buffalo cauliflower basket, an array of pizzas, sandwiches, cookies, and even shakes. Food and drinks are served to your seat by a team that is trained to minimize disruptions of the movie on the big screen.

The theater's website states that each of the fourteen auditoriums feature Sony 4K laser-powered digital projection systems and 7.1 channel Dolby sound systems. All seats are reserved, and you can find ticket prices on the Ticket Prices page.
