The Regal Essex Crossing & RPX in New York City has opened. Located at the corner of Delancey and Essex Streets in Manhattan in the Essex Crossing development. The development is a mix of residences, office space, and retail space on the city's Lower East Side.
The theater opened on Saturday, April 6, 2019, which is quite a bit later than originally planned. Originally announced in 2014, there was an announcement back in early December that it was going to open later that month. Regardless of why it was delayed, the new theater offers moviegoers luxury recliners, reserved seating, and an "expanded concession menu." While at-your-seat ordering isn't possible, seats do have tables that will hold food items brought into the auditorium.
The closest movie theaters are the Metrograph, Anthology Film Archives, and Angelika Film Center New York, none of which show mainstream movies. To see wide releases, moviegoers in the area needed to go to the AMC Village 7 on 3rd Avenue and 11th Street. Regal's closest location is the Regal Union Square Stadium 14, which is about a mile away near Broadway and East 14th Street.
