North Charleston, SC: Developer Plans to Demolish Regal Charles Towne Square 18

Posted on Friday, April 5th, 2019 2:58 PM

The Regal Charles Towne Square 18 in North Charleston, South Carolina may be demolished, if plans by a developer come to fruition.

The news comes from a report by News 2 recently:

For nearly two decades, the Regal Cinemas Charles Towne Square 18 in North Charleston has been showing movies and providing entertainment to the community.

However, a Charleston-based engineering firm and developer have submitted plans to the City of North Charleston to demolish the theater to build an apartment complex in its place.

:

The complex will be called the Elan Montague Apartment Development. According to the plans that have been provided by city officials, the total site development area will cover nearly 9.7 acres of land around the theater and includes the land that Regal Cinemas Charles Towne Square 18 is currently on— requiring it to be torn down.

The apartment complex will include 300 residential units and 600 parking spaces from onsite parking & a parking garage.

If the theater does close, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Southeast Cinemas - Northwoods Stadium Cinema, which is about five miles to the north, and the Southeast Cinemas - Citadel Mall IMAX 16, which is about six miles southwest of the Towne Square's location.

This process could take months, so there's likely no need to make other plans for early summer movies, but if you have Regal gift cards, it might be a good idea to use them up. The closest Regal locations are the Cinebarre Mt. Pleasant Stadium 11 in Mount Pleasant and the Regal Azalea Square Stadium 16 & RPX in Summerville.
