The Point Drive-In in Northumberland, Pennsylvania will not be reopening for the 2024 season.

Located along the Susquehanna River on Point Township Road between Northumberland and Danville, the drive-in movie theater has been showing movies since it opened in 1954 as the Arrow Drive-In. According to our records, it was renamed to the Point Drive-In in 1957.

The theater's Facebook page delivered the news recently in a message:

Hello everyone,

It is with a heavy heart, we have decided not to open the drive in this year. After 35 years of amazing memories and movies under the stars, we have to let it go. Dave is experiencing health problems, and it has become more than we can handle at this time. We will miss you all. We are hoping someone new will step up and run it, and we will help them in any way we can.

While it's possible that a new operator could come in yet this year, this news likely means that moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg, the AMC Classic Selinsgrove 12 in Selinsgrove, and the AMC Classic Bloomsburg 11 in Bloomsburg. The closest drive-ins are the Pike Drive-In Theatre in Montgomery (about 21 miles away) and the Garden Drive-In Theater in Hunlock Creek. The Sky-Vu Drive-in in Gratz also announced recently that it would not be reopening for the 2024 season.

Do You Have Memories of the Point Drive-In?

With almost 70 years of history, there are likely some good stories about watching movies at the Point Drive-In! Please consider leaving a message on the Reader Comments page for the theater!
