Ocala, FL: 12-Screen Movie Theater Coming to Market Street at Heath Brook

Posted on Monday, May 29, 2017 and updated on Thursday, May 30, 2019 7:24 PM

A twelve-screen movie theater will be coming to the Market Street at Heath Brook shopping center in Ocala, Florida, according to a recent news article published in the Ocala StarBanner:

Four years ago, Market Street at Heath Brook was the Marion County retail poster child for damage imposed by the Great Recession. The outdoor shopping mall was the subject of a $130.9 million foreclosure by Bank of America.

Today, four years after Dallas-based CREII Market Street Holding LLC bought the 60-acre mall off State Road 200 and west of Interstate 75 for $16.5 million, Market Street is making its way out of the woods. (The sale did not include the 11.4-acre Dillard’s Inc. property, which the department store conglomerate purchased more than four years ago.)

The latest sign of a healthier financial footing: the planned construction of a 12-screen movie theater on 4.12 acres on the back side of the campus. The Market Street SC-Epic Theatre will be operated by Epic Theatres, which already has eight theaters in Florida and North Carolina. The theater, the only of its size in that area, is expected to open next year.

The new movie theater will be within just a few miles of four nearby theaters. The Regal Hollywood 16 & IMAX is about two miles away, while the Marion Theatre, Ocala Drive-In, and Ocala Centre 6 are all about five miles away.

EPIC Theatres operates theaters in Florida and North Carolina, with the closest one currently being the Epic Theatres of Clermont in Claremont, which is about 50 miles away.

Update: The theater now has a name: Epic Theatres of Ocala
