Marvel's Captain America: Civil War will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on September 13, 2016, and digital streaming services on September 2, 2016.
Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
The movie opened May 6th, 2016 and, unsurprisingly, hit #1 on the Box Office report for its first two weekends, and stayed in the Top 10 for seven weeks. In that time, it amassed over $400 million in the U.S. box office, and Box Office Mojo reports that it has pulled in a total of $1.15 billion worldwide since opening day. It's still playing in several dozen movie theaters, even after more than 3.5 months. Its release on home video comes after a longish 130 days after its theatrical release, which reinforces its appeal in theaters.
Some movies are successes in the box office, but don't fare well in reviews, but Marvel did not disappoint audiences and critics alike. If you visit our Reviews page for the movie, you'll find that our readers all gave it very good reviews, as did our Featured Critic. Reviews aggregation site Metacritic totaled up a 75 score for the movie from professional movie critics, and their readers gave it an 8.3 out of 10. Not surprising for a Marvel superhero movie, but still a good showing!
As with their home video release of The Jungle Book, it's unfortunate that Disney is not releasing this blockbuster movie with an immersive Dolby Atmos or DTS:X soundtrack, as well as on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
