Two Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in California will be opening this month, according to the movie theater company. Known for its no-texting, no-talking policy and its ability to serve food to patrons' seats with stealth efficiency, the company took over Silicon Valley locations in Mountain View and Santa Clara that were previously operated by Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatres, LLC.
When it opens Monday, June 16, 2025, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Mountain View will have ten auditoriums with new reclining seats that have built-in tables and cupholders. Seats can be reserved in advance. Three auditoriums are premium large-format "Big Show" rooms with 4K laser projection systems and Dolby Atmos immersive audio installations. The rest have 7.1 channel surround sound.
The Mountain View location will have a themed bar/lounge area called Dumbots, which will have a "cybernetic cinema" theme. Robots from cinema history will overlook guests as they enjoy drinks and snacks in keeping with the theme, such as Robot Oil (Casamigos Reposado Tequila, Mr. Black Cold Brew Liqueur, Almond Orgeat, Averna Amaro, and cold brew coffee), Nuts & Bolts (Hendrick's Gin, Crème de Cassis, lemon, and mint), and the Rusty Smash (Evan Williams Bourbon, Monin strawberry purée, lemon, ginger beer, and mint). 24 beers will be on tap with a focus on the Northern California craft beer offerings.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Valley Fair will open a week later, on Monday, June 23, 2025. The theater features 10 auditoriums with luxury recliner seats, which can be reserved ahead of time. Each auditorium will have laser-powered digital projection systems with HFR capability. As at the Mountain View location, three auditoriums are premium large-format "Big Show" rooms with 4K laser projection systems and Dolby Atmos immersive audio installations. The rest feature 7.1 channel surround sound systems.
Like the Mountain View location, there will be a themed bar/lounge in Santa Clara as well. This one is called Bar Odo, which is named after the fictional Japanese island where Gojira (Godzilla) first appeared. That theme will permeate the theater, with posters lining the hallways for Mothra, Rodan, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. 24 beers will be on tap with a focus on the Northern California craft beer offerings.
Training Days Offer Discounts
The first three days at each location will be "training days" to allow employees to get up to speed, while offering moviegoers a 25% discount on food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Showtimes
To find out what's playing and when, visit the Showtimes page for the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Valley Fair and for the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Mountain View.
In addition to first-run releases, both locations will be offering special movie series in keeping with their relative themes. The Mountain View location will be showing The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day and others, while the Valley Fair will be hosting four weeks of Toho classics, as well as Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead.
