When the movie theater in the Palo Alto Square in Palo Alto, California closed in March 2020, the closure of the CineArts at Palo Alto Square seemed temporary. Then Cinemark announced in July 2021 that the theater would remain closed permanently.
Still, there were hopes that the movie theater could open again one day. According to a recent article published on the Palo Alto Online website, the community has been clamoring for it to reopen. That same article also spells the doom for those hopes, as the news that the city of Palo Alto is considering a plan for the area, which will see the movie theater converted into office space.

Moviegoers in the area will need to continue visiting one of the other nearby theaters, including the Stanford Theatre and the Landmark Aquarius Theatre in Palo Alto, as well as the Century Cinemas 16 in Mountain View.
