The Parsons Theatre in Parsons, Kansas closed last year, but the city of Parsons is considering incentives to a new operator to reopen the movie theater.

According to an article published recently in the Parsons Sun (see list below), the City Commission has been discussing incentives that include a loan, a grant, and tax rebates intended to reopen and improve the movie theater on 17th Street. The article outlines the incentives being considered and a discussion was planned for the May 29, 2025. We could not find a follow-up article, and the city does not provide the minutes for that meeting.

The new operator is identified as RT Entertainment Inc., which operates six locations in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The company operates the Roxy 4 Theatres, which 26 miles to the south in Chanute.

The article also mentions that the theater is hoping to open in June, so it's possible that movies will be showing in Parsons again before long!

Until it reopens, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the aforementioned Roxy 4 Theatres in Chanute and the Independence Cinema in Independence.
