The Landmark Cinemas in Peoria, Illinois has closed. Located in the Landmark Recreation Center on North Dries Road, the movie theater's last shows were on Sunday, July 30, 2023.
According to a news report by WMBD (see list below), the reason the theater was closing was pressure from the ongoing writers' strike. The entire Landmark Recreation Center has been for sale since last year.
Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Peoria Riverfront Museum Giant Screen Theater, the GQT Willow Knolls 14, and the AMC Classic Grand Prairie 18.
According to our records, the theater originally opened December 19, 1979 as the two-screen Landmark Cinemas. It expanded to 5 screens in 1980, and then to 8 screens in 1988. It was later known as the Reynolds Theatres Peoria Cinemas 10, Nova Cinemas Peoria, and GKC Landmark Mall Cinemas.
