The Regal UA Riverview Plaza IMAX & RPX in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania closed in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and never reopened. Now, hopes that it would reopen have been dashed.

According to an article published recently in Philly Voice (see below), Apple Cinemas has abandoned its plans to reopen the movie theater later this year. The company blames the demise of its plans to a conflict with the owner of the Riverview Plaza.

Regal closed all of its locations in reaction to a nationwide closure of movie theaters in March 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic began spreading. While some locations reopened later that year, closed again in October, and reopened again in 2021, the Riverview Plaza location never reopened.

Apple Cinemas currently operates 15 locations around the country.

Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Film Society East, the Landmark Ritz Five, and the Film Society Bourse.
