The Carmike Pines Mall 8 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas closed on January 14, 2016, but the mall is looking for a new operator, according to a recent article published in The Pine Bluff Commercial:

The movie theater at The Pines mall has closed and the owner of the mall said Friday they are looking for another company to operate it.

Mall owner Judy Vu said the lease between the mall and Carmike Cinemas runs out at the end of January. She said that Carmike made the decision to let the lease expire and to close its doors.

Vu said several companies have expressed interest in operating a movie theater at the mall, but no decision has been made as yet as to which one will be selected.

She said Carmike, which is based in Columbus, Georgia, has already removed their projectors, which she described as “old,” and other equipment from the theater. She said whichever company is selected to take over will upgrade the facility, including installing new projectors and sound equipment.

“We’re trying to build up the mall and make it better,” Vu said. “It takes time to make improvements.”

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit the Stuttgart Twin Cinema in Stuttgart or the Malco Cinema 6 in Monticello. Both theaters are more than a half hour away.
