The Angelika Plano in The Shops at Legacy shopping center in Plano, Texas has closed.

Located about 23 miles north of downtown Dallas on Legacy Drive and Dallas North Tollway, the movie theater apparently closed abuptly on June 3, 2024. Employees coming to work reportedly were greeted by locked doors and a sign on the window. News of its closure appeared on its Facebook page and website on June 5:

After decades of proudly serving filmgoers in the Plano community, it is with much regret that we must advise you that the Angelika Film Center in Plano has closed.

For the last 20 years, it has been a great honor, as the manager of the Angelika Plano, to present area audiences with not only the best in independent and specialty film, but also the best in global cinema.

A variety of economic challenges have made it impossible for the tenant to sustain its cinema in Plano.

According to our records, the theater originally opened as the Angelika Film Center in June 2004. It was later known as the Angelika Film Center & Cafe and the Angelika Film Center Plano. As of October 2022, it was known simply as the Angelika Plano.

The movie theater was operated by Reading International, which operates theaters around the country under the brands of Reading Cinemas, Consolidated Theatres, Angelika Anywhere, and Liberty Theatres (live theater). The closest location is the Angelika Dallas, which is about 17 miles away.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Cinemark West Plano and XD in Plano, the AMC Dine-In Stonebriar 24 in Frisco, and the Galaxy Grandscape in The Colony.
