The movie theater in the Providence Place shopping center in Providence, Rhode Island is closing Sunday, and a new operator is hoping to reopen the theater in early November.

The Providence Place Cinemas 16 & IMAX announced on its website that the theater will show its last movies under the management of National Amusements on Sunday, October 26, 2025:

We are sad to let you know that Providence Place Cinemas 16 and IMAX is closing.

It has been our pleasure to serve the Providence community with great movie-going for many years. Due to a business decision our last day of cinema operations will be Sunday, October 26.

Located along I-95 at Memorial Boulevard, the shopping center is in receivership and being prepared for sale, according to news reports. National Amusements has been operating the movie theater since 2008, when it combined the Hoyts Providence 16 and the Feinstein IMAX Theatre Providence Place. It appears that the lease was due to end January 31, 2026, but the receiver was reported to have wanted to end the lease early and applied for a new operator to take over, which was approved by the court.

That new operator is Apple Cinemas, which has locations in seven states. This will be the second location in Rhode Island for the company, which took over the Apple Cinemas - Warwick in the Warwick Mall in 2022.

It appears that the movie theater will reopen as the Apple Cinemas - Providence Place IMAX in early November, possibly on November 1, 2025. The Providence location is already shown on the company's website, but no showtimes have been listed so far.

Showtimes and Tickets

The theater as you know it will continue to show movies until close of business Sunday night. To see what's playing and when, and to buy tickets online, please visit the Showtimes page for the Providence Place Cinemas 16 & IMAX.

Come Monday, however, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Avon Cinema in Providence and the Apple Cinemas - Warwick in Warwick until Apple Cinemas opens the doors once again.
