Three Regal movie theater locations in California have closed recently. The Regal Edwards Anaheim Hills in Anaheim, the Regal Edwards Westpark in Irvine, and the Regal Edwards Calabasas in Calabasas closed in September.

The Regal Edwards Anaheim Hills originally opened December 11, 1998 as the Edwards Anaheim Hills Festival 8 Cinemas. It was later known as the Edwards Anaheim Hills 14.

The Regal Edwards Westpark opened December 21, 1994 as the Edwards Westpark 8 Cinemas.

The Regal Edwards Calabasas originally opened as the Edwards Grand Palace Stadium Cinemas on December 18, 1998. It was later known as the Edwards Grand Palace Stadium 6.

Edwards Theatres was combined with Regal Cinemas and United Artists Theatres to form the Regal Entertainment Group in 2002. Cineworld announced in December 2017 that it purchased Regal Entertainment Group.

It's probably no coincidence that all three movie theaters were former Edwards Theatres locations and that all three opened in the 1990s. The closures come after Cineworld filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early September. While the company vowed "business as usual," we commented at the time that it would likely mean that some locations would be closed as part of the reorganization. These won't be the only casualties, to be sure.
