The Rome Cinemas in Rome, Georgia closed in October 2020, and U-Haul announced recently that it will be converting the former movie theater into a self-storage and retail facility.
In April, an article in the Rome News-Tribune reported that the building on Alabama Highway was for sale, with the stipulation that it could not reopen as a movie theater. The owners are still operating the Movies at Mount Berry Square in the Berry Square Mall on the north side of Rome and reportedly don't want the competition.
Moviegoers in the area hoping for the theater to reopen will continue to need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the aforementioned Movies at Mount Berry Square, the West Theatre in Cedartown, and the AMC Classic Cartersville 12 in Cartersville.
