The AMC Classic Salina 10 in Salina, Kansas appears to be closed permanently after temporarily closing in late April due to storm damage.

The community was cleaning up after severe thunderstorms that included hail hit the area on Sunday, April 27, 2026. The storm caused roof damage to the Central Mall on South 9th Street, which resulted in all the tenants in the the mall closing until repairs and cleanup could be done. One of those tenants was the AMC Classic Salina 10, which has been in the mall since it opened in 1987.

The theater has been closed since the storm, but there were hopes that it would reopen once things were cleaned up. However, an article published recently in the Salina Post (see list below) mentions that the theater's lease was set to expire at the end of May, and that AMC was not planning to renew the lease. AMC's website does display a message on the theater's page that reads "We apologize for the inconvenience, but this theatre is temporarily closed. Please continue to check back here for updates."

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Art Center Cinema in Salina and the McPherson Theater in McPherson.

Theater History

According to our records, the theater opened April 10, 1987 as the Central Mall Cinema 4 (Dickinson Theatres). It was known as the Dickinson Central Mall 10 when it was sold to Showplex Cinemas, Inc. in May 2010. It became the Starplex Cinemas Central Mall 10 in May 2013 following the acquisition of Showplex Cinemas by Starplex Cinemas. It was known as the Starplex Cinemas - Salina 10 when AMC acquired Starplex Cinemas in 2015, causing it to be renamed to the AMC Salina 10. It was rebranded as the AMC Classic Salina 10 in 2017 as the company began to rebrand its older movie theaters with the "Classic" designation.

These "Classic" movie theaters tend to have less amenities and some do not have stadium seating, much less the powered recliners that have become standard in new movie theaters. Many of the locations that AMC has closed since the pandemic-related temporary closures of 2020 have been "Classic" locations.
