The Landmark Hillcrest Cinemas in San Diego, California has closed. Located in the Village Hillcrest development in San Diego’s Hillcrest/Uptown District, the movie theater offered five screens that featured independent movies and foreign language titles.

Landmark Theatres originally opened the theater November 22, 1991. Its last day of operation was January 5, 2025. At the time of its opening, it was one of five Landmark Theatres locations in the San Diego area, and now there are none. That's bad news for fans of independent and foreign language movies, and especially so if you purchased the Landmark Theatres gift cards that the theater was advertising on its Facebook page as recently as December 22.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Cinema Under the Stars - San Diego, the AMC Fashion Valley 18, and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center - Dome Theater in San Diego. We did find that the Vintage Village Theatre in Coronado is playing a movie lineup similar to what would have been playing at the Hillcrest Cinemas, so you may want to give that theater a try.
