Marcus Theatres announced recently that it will be adding three ScreenX installations in the future. ScreenX uses multiple projectors to display a 270 degree panoramic image which covers the sidewalls of the auditorium as well as the primary screen in front of you. The result is an immersive experience that can be very impressive. A movie does have to be available in the ScreenX format, so not every movie can be played in the format.
The locations that will be getting the new installations are:
- Marcus Addison Cinema -- Addison, Illinois
- Marcus Southbridge Crossing Cinema -- Shakopee, Minnesota
- Marcus Crosswoods Cinema -- Columbus, Ohio
The timeframe mentioned for these installations are "ahead of the 2025 blockbuster summer season," which is usually considered to start the first weekend of May. They are right on schedule, since all three locations are showing Thunderbolts* in ScreenX starting on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
The company's first and only ScreenX installation is at the Marcus Ridge Cinemas in New Berlin, Wisconsin. We attended the debut event at that location in 2023 and were impressed by the demonstration video clips and the presentation of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One in ScreenX. You can read about our impressions of the event for more information.
This news was announced in a press release issued by CJ 4DPLEX, which offers ScreenX, 4DX, and Ultra 4DX formats for movie theaters. Mark Gramz, President, Marcus Theatres was quoted as saying:
The success of our first SCREENX location at Marcus Ridge Cinema confirmed the demand for this differentiated cinema technology. Our partnership with CJ 4DPLEX underscores our commitment to providing innovative entertainment options, and we're excited to bring SCREENX to three new markets.
Find Movies Playing in ScreenX
CJ 4DPLEX states that it has 425 ScreenX auditoriums in 40 countries, but doesn't mention how many of those are in the United States.
Fortunately, we've created a search tool to help you find Movies Playing in ScreenX.
You can browse the movies that are playing in ScreenX, and you are able to browse the theaters that are playing movies in ScreenX. That tool currently shows that there are nine movies playing in ScreenX at 79 movie theaters in the United States.
