The doors to the ACX Promenade Cinema in Sioux City, Iowa were locked when moviegoers tried to get in Wednesday, October 1, 2025. A notice on the door stated that the locks were changed and the tenant was "no longer permitted to enter or occupy the premises."

Located on 4th Street near the convention center, the 14-screen movie theater is the city's largest and is operated by ACX Cinemas (aka Main Street Theatres, Inc.). An article on the website for KCAU (see below) about the situation includes a statement from the company's CEO that said that there was a dispute with the landlord and that he hoped it would be resolved quickly. The company's website does not list any showtimes at the theater until October 9.

Sioux City International Film Festival Impacted

The theater's closure impacts the Sioux City International Film Festival, which was to begin October 2, 2025 and run through October 5. A statement on the film festival's website says that they were surprised by this development and are hopeful that it will be resolved, but they also are working on alternate locations for the festival.

To prevent confusion, we have removed the showtimes for this location until we hear about the situation being resolved and the theater reopens.

Until it reopens, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the AMC Southern Hills 12 in Sioux City.
