Sun-Ray Cinema is coming to Tampa, Florida to the location of the former Studio Movie Grill - Tampa in the University Mall. Located near I-275 and East Fowler Avenue, the movie theater closed in 2021 and was expected to become a LOOK Cinemas location, but never did.

The company operated the Sun-Ray Cinema @ 5 Points in Jacksonville, which closed in July. The announcement about the upcoming December 11, 2024 opening of the Sun-Ray Cinema Tampa was posted to the company's Facebook page earlier today:

It’s official! We found our next home in Tampa, Florida. It’s a ten screen with a massive 4,000 sq ft kitchen. We have two rooms the size of the second photo and have 8 more of varying sizes. We hope to turn it around by Thanksgiving then renovate as we operate but definitely will be open by 12/11 just in time for Jozef Van Wissem to perform a score to Murnau’s Nosferatu two weeks before Eggers’ new version opens on Christmas Day. 

Tampa is a bit of a drive from Jacksonville, so only ardent fans will make the 3+ hour drive, but with over 28,000 followers on Facebook alone, the new location is sure to find fans in the Tampa area as well.

Until then, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the AMC Highwoods 20 and the AMC Veterans 24.
