Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 classic action movie, Top Gun, has been trying to land in theaters since 2020, but has seen its release date change several times due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Its most recent release date was November 19, but the movie was delayed recently one more time, to May 27, 2022. The new date is more in keeping with the summer blockbuster it is expected to be, so this should work in the movie's favor. Until then, the original movie is available on a new 4K release on disc and streaming, so head over to the Movie Information page for Top Gun for links!

The vacancy the move created created an opening for Ghostbusters: Afterlife to shift its release from November 11 to November 19. Opening the weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday should provide it with a chance to impress audiences looking for some fun when they have free time from work and school.

One movie's opportunity is another movie's inconvenience, though, as Top Gun: Maverick took the release date that was already reserved for another Tom Cruise movie. Mission: Impossible 7 has been shifted to a somewhat unenviable September 30, 2022 release date. September isn't known as a great month to release movies, but the industry is getting all kinds of shaken up right now, and maybe the move will allow the movie some elbow room instead of trying to squeeze it into a busy summer. Personally, I would have held onto it until early November myself...

In other news, even though promos are already playing in theaters, Jackass Forever has been moved from October 22, 2021 to February 4, 2022. Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day like taking your date to a movie like that, but I recommend making plans for seeing Marry Me instead.
