Microsoft Xbox 360Walt Disney movies are coming to Xbox 360 game consoles in high definition, according to a press release issued by Microsoft today.

A catalog of new and classic movies from The Walt Disney Studios, including titles from Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures and Miramax Films, is available in standard and high definition.

According to Microsoft's Xbox web site, the following movies are available right now:

  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Hercules
  • The Aristocats
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame
  • Atlantis: The Lost Empire
  • Meet the Deedles
  • The Emperor's New Groove
  • The Fox and the Hound 2
  • Ghosts of the Abyss
  • Pooh's Heffalump Movie
  • Meet the Deedles
  • Mighty Joe Young
  • Sky High
  • Tarzan
  • Valiant
  • Armageddon
  • Bad Company
  • Bringing Down the House
  • Cold Creek Manor
  • Coyote Ugly
  • Metro
  • Moonlight Mile
  • O Brother, Where Art Thou?
  • The 13th Warrior
  • The Waterboy
  • Unbreakable
  • The Brothers Grimm
  • The Great Raid

Recent movies will also become available, including:

  • Bridge to Terabithia
  • The Queen
  • Deja Vu

High-definition new-release movie rentals are 480 Microsoft Points (about $6) each, and standard-definition new-release movie rentals are 320 Microsoft Points (about $4) each. Classic feature films in high definition are 360 Microsoft Points (about $4.50) each, and classic feature films in standard definition are 240 Microsoft Points (about $3).

It's wishful thinking, but perhaps Disney's cooperation with Microsoft means that the right people can start talking and Disney's studios can end their exclusive arrangement with the Blu-ray Disc Association and start releasing their movies on HD DVD (of which Microsoft is a primary supporter).
