While Wisconsin has only had about a week of spring-like temperatures so far, drive-in movie theaters in Wisconsin are gearing up for the 2025 summer movie season. We've compiled a summary of where they are and when you can watch your favorite movies under the stars!

Ten drive-ins were showing movies in Wisconsin as of the end of the 2024 season. We checked the websites, social media, and phone lines for each to find out if and when they'll start showing movies this year. Unfortunately, some have not opened yet and will not be showing movies this year.

Skyway Drive-In Theatre - Fish Creek

The Skyway Drive-In Theatre in Fish Creek is the only drive-in movie theater located in Door County. It originally opened in 1950 and has a single screen.

The theater opened earlier this month and was recently honored with the #7 spot on USA Today's "10 best drive-in theaters in the United States." The movies playing this weekend at the outdoor movie theater are Lilo & Stitch and Thunderbolts*.

Milky Way Drive-In - Franklin

The Milky Way Drive-In is the only drive-in movie theater in the Milwaukee area. Rather than a traditional and historic outdoor theater, this is a video display screen that has been mounted in the parking lot of the Ballpark Commons, which is where the Milwaukee Milkmen minor league baseball team plays.

The Milky Way Drive-In opened last weekend. That display screen means that movies start much earlier than the usual requirement of sunset enforces, and the next double-feature is scheduled for Sunday, May 25 at 5pm.

Field of Scenes Drive-In - Freedom

Located about ten miles northeast of Appleton, the Field of Scenes Drive-In in Freedom originally opened in 2003.

The Fox Valley drive-in's first shows of Lilo & Stitch and Thunderbolts* will be Friday, May 23, 2025.

Sky-Vu Drive-In Theatre - Monroe

Located near the Wisconsin-Illinois border about 40 miles southwest of Madison, the Sky-Vu Drive-In Theatre in Monroe originally opened in 1954. It is operated by Goetz Theatres, which also operated the Goetz Theatre in downtown Monroe until 2022.

The outdoor movie theater will be showing Lilo & Stitch and Thunderbolts* this weekend!

Starlite 14 Drive-In - Richland Center

The Starlite 14 Drive-In outside Richland Center is hard to miss. If you're heading east on Highway 14 out of town, the white road sign grabs your attention and beckons you to spend the evening watching a movie. The single-screen outdoor theater originally opened in 1952 and has been operated by Brent Montry and Holly and Tony Johnson since 2022. The group also operates the Center Cinema in Richland Center.

Just like the first flowers that pop up as soon as the weather starts to warm, the Starlite was the first drive-in movie theater to open in Wisconsin. Their opening day was April 19!

Shawano Moonlight Outdoor Theater - Shawano

The Shawano Moonlight Outdoor Theater in Shawano is located along Highway 22 about 35 miles northwest of Green Bay. The single-screen drive-in is operated by Suick Theatres, which also operates the Shawano Cinemas, which is right in front of the outdoor operation.

The Moonlight Outdoor Drive-In Theater is opening for the 2025 season on Memorial Day weekend.

Big Sky Twin Drive-In Theatres - Wisconsin Dells

The Big Sky Twin Drive-In Theatres is ideally situated to attract everyone that descends upon one of Wisconsin's most popular tourist destinations! Located one mile south of Wisconsin Dells on Highway 16, the drive-in typically shows movies starting in early May until Fall.

The outdoor movie theater opened earlier this month and has double-features scheduled for this weekend for its two screens.

Stardust Drive In - Chetek

The Stardust Drive In is located 45 miles north of Eau Claire in northeastern Wisconsin.

Earlier this month, we reported that the theater will not be opening for the 2025 season. Owner Nicholas Meyer announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer and cannot operate the Stardust Drive In this summer. He writes on the theater's website that the closure is temporary and he has launched a fundraiser to help cover the costs of maintaining the property while it's closed.

The Stardust Drive In has been serving moviegoers in the area since 2001, and we hope for the best possible outcome for Meyer and to see the outdoor theater return next year!

Chilton Twilight Drive-In - Chilton

Theater photo

The Chilton Twilight Drive-In opened in 2012 in the parking lot of a former WalMart store. The screen is unmissable along Highway 57 south of downtown Chilton. Unfortunately, this is another one of Wisconsin's few remaining drive-ins that will not be showing movies this summer.

Get Reel, Inc. announced last October that it would not be reopening the Twilight Drive-In for the 2025 season. The company continues to operate the Chilton Cinema on Madison Street.

While the company hoped that someone would step up and reopen the theater, we could not find any information indicating that will happen.

Highway 18 Outdoor Theatre - Jefferson

The Highway 18 Outdoor Theatre is located 30 miles east of Madison and just outside of Jefferson on, you guessed it, Highway 18. Unfortunately, it's also one of the Wisconsin drive-ins that will not be opening this year.

The theater has been for sale since 2023. It did open for the 2024 season, but the owner said at the end of the year that he is retiring and had no plans to open for business in 2025. There are now two conflicting listings for the outdoor theater, so any potential buyer will want to hold them to the lower-priced listing.
