If you're planning to follow the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, there are plenty of events between today and February 22 to entertain you. To quote ABC's Wide World of Sports, there will be the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in events ranging from Skiing to Ice Hockey to Figure Skating, and more!

The competitions can be inspirational and thrilling to watch, which are aspects that make for compelling movies as well. Many movies have been made over the years about the Winter and Summer Olympics, and we've collected a few examples of movies about the Winter Olympics for your viewing pleasure!

Cool Runnings Movie Poster

Cool Runnings [1993]

Based on the true story of the Jamaican bobsled team going to the Winter Olympics, John Candy plays a down-and-out former athlete to coach four men from Jamaica with big dreams. Like many of Candy's movies, this has plenty of comedic turns while also touching your heart. This is definitely the most light-hearted of the list.

The Cutting Edge [1992]

Moira Kelly plays a figure skater who must figure out how to work with D.B. Sweeney's hockey player to compete in the Olympics as a figure skating pair. There's a romantic angle to be enjoyed in this drama, if you're into that sort of thing.

Eddie the Eagle Movie Poster

Eddie the Eagle [2016]

On par with Cool Runnings, this is another inspired-by-true-events story that will make you laugh while also tugging at your emotions a little. Michael "Eddie" Edwards (Taron Egerton) is an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself - even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach (Hugh Jackman), Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.

I, Tonya Movie Poster

I, Tonya [2017]

Based on the unbelievable, but true events, is this darkly comedic tale of American figure skater, Tonya Harding, and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy was forever defined by her association with an infamous, ill-conceived, and even more poorly executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan.

This movie won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress (Allison Janney) as Harding's mom. and Margot Robbie was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Tonya Harding.

Miracle Movie Poster

Miracle [2004]

Likely the most inspirational story for Americans, the 1980 Men's Hockey team was a ragtag squad that a coach (Kurt Russel) takes to the Olympic Games and faced down the best the world had to offer.
