The Liberty Cinema in Wenatchee, Washington has closed suddenly after a portion of the roof collapsed into one of the auditoriums while a movie was playing.

According to news articles published recently (see below), the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department responded around 8pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 to a call about a partial roof collapse and found debris covering the front of the auditorium. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.

Located on Mission Street near Palouse Street, the theater is operated by Sun Basin Theatres, which also operates the Gateway Cinema in Wenatchee. The collapse happened in the main auditorium, which dates back to the theater's 1919 opening, but the entire 8-screen movie theater will be closed until further notice. The theater's website displays the following message:

The Liberty Cinema will be temporarily closed until further notice.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience.

Where to See Movies on the Big Screen

Until the theater reopens, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Gateway Cinema near Route 2 and Easy Street in Wenatchee.
