The demolition of the Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, Illinois has begun, and the Cinemark West Dundee and XD is part of the shopping center. So, what will happen to the movie theater?

Built in 1980, the mall sits on 100 acres of land in West Dundee and Carpentersville and officially closed March 24, 2025. The village of West Dundee purchased the property so that it could be redeveloped, with plans for retail, entertainment, and residential units. Demolition is expected to take until Thanksgiving of 2025.

Two properties were not part of the sale: the Kohls department store and the Cinemark movie theater.

The movie theater opened December 15, 2016 as the Cinemark Spring Hill Mall and XD. At some point in time, its name was changed. We believe it might have been in conjunction with the mall closing in March, as the "Spring Mall" designation is no longer appropriate.

Nothing we could find mentions that the movie theater is closing. To the contrary, every news report found indicates that the theater will remain in operation.
