Cinemark Luxury Lounger PromoThe Cinemark West Springfield 15 in West Springfield, Massachusetts will be getting Cinemark's Luxury Lounger powered recliners, according to an article published recently by The Republican:

Cinemark is in the midst of adding reserved, luxury lounger seating to its 15-screen Rave Cinemas on Riverdale Street.

Movie-goers can choose their recliner seats in advance online or off of a display screen at the theater box office. The recliners go back three-quarters of the way with a foot rest.

"It's a game changer in many ways," said Bryan Jeffries, vice president of marketing and promotions for the Dallas-based chain, on Tuesday. "No one has to run ahead and drop off their coats to save seats before going to buy popcorn."

Work in West Springfield is nearing completion with three more auditoriums still to be renovated, he said.

This is a trend that has been sweeping through movie theaters recently. Once the purview of home theaters and media rooms in the homes of movie enthusiasts, theaters are hoping that the upgraded seating will bring in more customers. They better, since installing the seats typically reduces the capacity of a movie theater by 30%. It also helps that the admission price is boosted in many cases. The article mentions that this location will be increasing its ticket prices by $0.50 after the improvements.
