The CMX - Cinemex Luxury Cinema in Wheeling, Illinois will take a little longer to open than expected in order to add a full-service restaurant to the movie theater. The news comes from an article published recently in the Daily Herald:

The opening of CMX Cinemas, the main retail attraction at Wheeling Town Center, will be delayed because its owners have decided to add a full-service restaurant.

CMX is replacing one of its planned theaters with the restaurant, reducing the number of movie screens to seven. The change will push back the expected summer opening about three months to later in the fall.

"This change will not only enhance the CMX customer experience and improve the draw to the Wheeling Town Center but will create additional local jobs and generate more sales tax revenue to the village," Daniel Shapiro, an attorney for CMX, said in a letter to the village.

The village board voted unanimously Monday to approve the change.

This leads us to believe that it will eventually be branded with the CineBistro name that it acquired when it picked up the 25-location Cobb Theatres chain in October 2017.

This project was announced in October 2016, with an anticipated opening date in 2018. Construction began in May 2018.

Until the theater opens, moviegoers in the area will need to visit other nearby theaters, including the Buffalo Grove Theater in Buffalo Grove, the Regal Lincolnshire Stadium 15 & IMAX in Lincolnshire, and the AMC Randhurst 12 in Mount Prospect. CMX also operates the CMX - Paragon Arlington Heights, which is just five miles southwest of the Wheeling Town Center.

The movie theater will be operated by Cinemex Cinemas, which is based in Mexico City, Mexico. It opened its first movie theater in the United States (the CMX - Brickell City Centre in Miami, Florida) in April 2017 and has expanded quickly through acquisitions and opening new locations, including several in the Chicagoland area.
