The Fox Bay Cinema Grill in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin last showed movies in September 2020 in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Like almost every movie theater in the country, the theater had closed temporarily in March 2020 and then reopened in May, but closed again in late September 2020.

Unfortunately, it now appears that the theater will not reopen, at least not under the management of current operator Roman Kelly. I spoke with Roman today (June 21, 2021) and he said that he will not likely reopen the theater.

Located on Silver Spring Drive near the border of Fox Point and Whitefish Bay (hence the name Fox Bay), the theater originally opened as a single-screen movie theater in 1950. It closed in 1992. It opened in 1998 a Cinema Grill franchise with the balcony divided into two additional screens (for a total of three) and renamed Fox Bay Cinema Grill. Cinema Grill as a company didn't survive, but the Fox Bay continued being called by the same name.

While the Bayshore Town Center is nearby and it's located near a freeway interchange, this area seems to have trouble attracting moviegoers. The iPic Theatres at Bayshore Town Center inside the shopping center closed in 2018. It's quite possible that had more to do with the shopping center having some issues (like many malls across the country, it has struggled, especially after losing Sears as an anchor store), so we'll see if someone can come in and start showing movies in the Fox Bay once again!

Perhaps the Neighborhood Theater Group, which operates the Avalon Theatre and Times Cinema in Milwaukee and the Rosebud Cinema in Wauwatosa will see value in having a location on the North Shore...

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Landmark Downer Theatre and Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee.
