The release date for Wonder Woman 1984 has been moved from June 5, 2020 to August 14, 2020.
The much-anticipated sequel to the 2017 Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot as the titular character was rumored by some to be headed to streaming providers, but the financial returns possible with streaming are not going to support the budget of a movie like this. Furthermore, we expect that lower-tier movies will have to blaze that trail, because studios are not going to risk their A-list properties on anything less than a sure thing.
Moving to August should avoid the brunt of the coronavirus pandemic and we think audiences will be clamoring for getting out after what is likely going to be a long claustrophobic time for many people.
In Wonder Woman 1984 audiences will fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah. The movie also stars Kristin Wiig, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Pine. Patty Jenkins returns to direct.
