Yamaha Announces RX-A 60 Series AVENTAGE AV Receivers

Posted on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016 4:45 PM

A full month ahead of their usual schedule, Yamaha announced their AVENTAGE RX-A 60 series of AV receivers. This series represents the top of Yamaha's lineup of receivers. Their RX-V 81 series was announced in April.

Yamaha RX-A Series of AV Receivers

The RX-A 60 series replaces the RX-A 50 series that was released in 2015. Whereas that series introduced support for a new sound format, DTS:X, the RX-A 60 series seems more like a refinement of the previous models. All of these models support 4K Ultra HD video resolution with HDR and BT.2020 and HDCP 2.2 copy protection, the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X immersive sound formats, Yamaha's YPAO room equalization, and the company's MusicCast multi-room audio solution.

RX-A3060 — 11.2 channel processing, $2,199.95

Buy from Amazon.com

Headlining the series is the RX-A3060, which has an MSRP of $2,199.95 and will be available in July. Like the RX-A3050 before it, this is capable of 11-channel processing of both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X in 5.1.4 and 7.1.2 configurations, and with an external 2-channel amplifier, you can increase that to 7.1.4. One of the new features for the 3060 is the ability to add Yamaha's DSP modes to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding, which was previously only possible in Yamaha's high-end CX-A5100 preamp/processor. The YPAO room equalization software now processes lower frequencies in order to equalize the full range of most subwoofers, which has been a knock against Yamaha when comparing YPAO to Audyssey equalization present in models from Denon and other manufacturers. Another new feature of note for the 3060 is the ability for YPAO to apply angle measurements for Yamaha's DSP modes (but, unfortunately, not Atmos or DTS:X, which could improve rendering of those immersive formats).

RX-A2060 — 9.2 channel processing, $1,699.95

Buy from Amazon.com

The RX-A2060 is a 9.2 channel AV receiver that supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X in 5.1.4 and 7.1.2 configurations. The power is a little lower than the RX-A3060, but the primary difference is that it cannot process 11 channels like its bigger brother. It will list for $1,699.95 and will be available in July.

RX-A1060 — 7.2 channel processing, $1,299.95

Buy from Amazon.com

Stepping down to the RX-A1060 will be good for those looking for just 7.2 channel support, with Atmos and DTS:X processing in a 5.1.2 configuration. Instead of going for immersive sound, you can do a 5.1 channel configuration on the main zone and still have a Zone 2 output as well. Naturally, the power rating is lower, but so is the price. $1,299.95 will take one home when it becomes available in June.

RX-A860, RX-A760, and RX-A660 — 7.2 channel processing

Buy from Amazon.com

Also available are the $999.95 RX-A860 (June), $749.95 RX-A760 (May), and the $649.95 RX-A660 (June).
