The Dakota Theatre in Yankton, South Dakota last showed movies in 1987, but it is open and hosting live performances.

Located on Walnut Street, the historic theater traces its history back to 1902 when it opened as the Yankton Opera House. It opened January 28, 1921 as the Hess Theatre and was renamed to the Dakota Theatre in 1929. It closed in 1987 and was reopened in 1993 as a live performance venue. It is currently operated by the Lewis and Clark Theater Company.

If you want to see a movie in the area, your closest choices are the Coyote Twin Theatre in Vermillion and the Lund Theatre in Viborg.
