Walt Disney Records is releasing the soundtrack to the upcoming comedy The Muppets on November 21, 2011, according to an announcement released in October. The soundtrack features updated versions of Muppet classics, familiar songs given the Muppet treatment, and songs written by Bret McKenzie. The movie opens in theaters two days later.

When Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary's girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater, they help Kermit reunite the Muppets to stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater. Stars Jason Segel, Amy Adams and Chris Cooper join in the singing, as do special guests Feist, Mickey Rooney, Joanna Newsom, Disney Music Group artist Nathan Pacheco and the whistling skills of Andrew Bird.

The Muppets sing new versions of "The Muppet Show Theme" and "Rainbow Connection," as well as "Mah No Mah Na." They reinterpret songs by Cee Lo Green, Nirvana, Paul Simon, and more.

You can pre-order the music on CD or download it from iTunes using the links to the left. At the time of this writing, no samples were yet available, but most likely will be as the release date approaches.
