Steamboat Springs, CO: Metropolitan Wildhorse Stadium Cinemas Opens

Posted on Thursday, May 18th, 2006 and updated on Tuesday, September 25th, 2012 1:42 PM

The Metropolitan Wildhorse Stadium Cinemas opened today, May 18, 2006, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The six-screen movie theater offers stadium seating in all auditoriums, with three having all-stadium seating, and the other three feature stadium seating in the back and sloped seating in the front.

The Steamboat Today featured the theater in an article published today titled "Now Showing - Wildhorse 6 Stadium Cinemas opens its doors":

Wildhorse 6 Stadium Cinemas opens today and offers a moviegoing experience that includes wall-to-wall, 35-foot-by-35-foot screens, gourmet popcorn and stadium seats with 44-inch backs and legroom to spare.

"This is a dream come true for me," general manager Mark Green said. "I operated the Chief Plaza Theater downtown for more than a decade and owned and operated Mountain Movie for a few seasons.

"With all the growth in the Yampa Valley, the movie business didn't keep up. After all these years, we now have something that's really high-end."

Obviously, the theater does not have square screens measuring 35'x35', so we're going to assume that they meant 35 feet wide instead. The article goes on to say that the theater was a joint venture by Metropolitan Theatres Corporation and Rocky Mountain Cinemas.

The theater's only competition within a 30 mile radius is the Carmike Chief Plaza 4 in downtown Steamboat Springs. Since they are so close together, the two theaters will not play the same movies, as movie distributors usually want a certain distance between venues playing their titles.
