Carmike Cinemas logoCarmike Cinemas, Inc. announced today that it will be constructing a new movie theater in the Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester, Virginia. The new 12-screen theater will be named Carmike Apple Blossom 12 and is expected to open in spring 2013 and will replace the Carmike Apple Blossom 6.

Carmike President and CEO David Passman was quoted in the press release:

“We’re providing the ultimate entertainment experience that centerpieces large format DIGITAL with bigger screens, bigger sound, and luxurious theatre seating for cutting-edge presentation and the definitive enjoyment of our audiences. With the opening of the new location, the Winchester area joins a select and growing list of communities across the nation offering Carmike theatregoers the exciting new ‘BIGD’ format.”

One of the key features of the new theater is the BigD auditorium, which is Carmike's big screen concept that will have a screen over 60 feet wide and 7.1 channel surround sound, with a Digital Cinema Projection system capable of both 2D and 3D presentations.

Because it appears that the Apple Blossom 6 will be demolished to make way for the new theater, we have deactivated its entry and will create a new one when we get closer to the opening date. Until then, you may want to keep the Apple Blossom 6 in your Favorite Theaters list so that you can stay abreast of any other developments related to this construction project.

Until it reopens, moviegoers in the area do have the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Winchester nearby in order to get their movie needs fulfilled.
