Carmike Cinemas logoThe Carmike Apple Blossom 12 in Winchester, Virginia will open to the public on Thursday, June 27, 2013, according to a press release issued this week by Carmike Cinemas. The new 12-screen theater will open at 7pm with a selection of recent movies and $2 admission, $2 small popcorn, and $2 small drinks, with the proceeds benefitting the United Way of the Northern Shenandoah Valley and its member agencies. At 10pm, a full selection of the newest feature movies will be offered, including White House Down, which will play in the theater's big-screen concept "BigD" auditorium.

Carmike Cinemas President and Chief Executive Officer David Passman stated, “Carmike continues actively expanding our growing circuit, on our way to 300 theatres and 3,000 screens through selective acquisitions and the addition of multiple new-build theatres in promising locations like Winchester, across ‘Hometown America.’

“We’re providing the ultimate entertainment experience that features large format digital with bigger screens, bigger and better sound, and the finest in-theatre seating for cutting-edge presentation and the definitive enjoyment of our audiences. Furthermore, with the opening of our newest location, the Winchester area joins a select and growing list of communities across the nation offering Carmike theatregoers the exciting “BIGD” format.”

All the auditoriums will have stadium-style seating with high-back chairs, retractable armrests, and cupholders, as well as Digital Cinema Projection systems. The "BigD" auditorium takes it up a notch by offering a 60' wide by "nearly three story tall" screen (which should equate to about 60'x25'), 2D and 3D capability, and a 7.1 channel sound system that can be updated later to 11.1 channels. The press release promises that this auditorium will be "a new gold standard in unparalleled picture clarity and deep resonating digital sound," so check it out for yourself and hold them to that promise!

This theater replaced the Carmike Apple Blossom 6, which closed in May 2012 so that this theater could be built. As far as we know, the previous building was demolished to make way for this all-new building.

We will be publishing their showtimes as soon as they make them available to us, so keep an eye on the Showtimes page for updates!
