Theater PhotoThe Roxy Cinema Grill 10 in Palm Bay, Florida closed without advance notice on September 5, 2013. They posted a message on their Facebook page that day that simply said:

We thank the community for their support. Unfortunately this is our last day of business.

They posted a follow-up message in reply to those asking why it closed:

Due to the impending stop of 35mm film production, and the cost of going digital, there is not enough profit margin to stay open

By that, it appears that they are blaming their closure on the industry's transition to Digital Cinema Projection systems, but given that movies on film are still available, closing solely for that reason seems premature.

Their web site also had a notice posted on that day that provided no additional details:

We thank the community for your support and buisness. Unfortunately we will be closing september 5th.

(Spelling errors and lack of capitalization are theirs, not ours)

Closing without warning leaves customers that have gift certificates in a bad position, especially when there aren't any other locations where those certificates can be used.

Moviegoers in Palm Bay will need to travel a little to see movies on the big screen, with four theaters within 15 miles, including the Palm Bay Dollar Movies in Palm Bay for second-run fare, and the Premiere Oaks 10 in Melbourne if they want to see new releases.
