Carmike Cinemas logoThe Carmike Village 5 in Mountain Home, Arkansas closed December 12, 2013.

The Baxter Bulletin published an article earlier this month that reported the theater's upcoming closure, along with some news about its future:

Now, some 35 years later, [Lee Davis], the general manager, and the other employees at Village Five will say goodbye to loyal customers as the theater goes dark on Dec. 12 following a customer appreciation day.

“I’m not sure what happened,” Davis said, when asked why the theater was closing. “We think it’s because the lease could not be renewed.”

The building that housed the Village Five will show movies again in the future, according to Sharon McCalmont, who along with her husband Henry and daughter Tammy, own the Sun Valley Cinema.
McCalmont said the family will lease the Village Five theater building beginning Jan. 1.

The interior will be renovated, and the McCalmonts hope to open the theater back up in early February.

Until the theater re-opens, moviegoers in the area will need to visit the Sun Valley Cinema 6 or drive further to one of the next closest theaters.
