The Cinemark West Valley and XD in West Valley City, Utah opened yesterday, June 12, 2014. The 10-screen theater is located next to Target at 2573 S. 5370 W, just southeast of State Route 201 and South 5600 W.

A press release issued by Cinemark Holdings, Inc. mentions that the theater was designed with their "Cinemark NextGen" design concept, and will feature 4K Digital Cinema Projection systems in every auditorium, with 3D capability in six of them.

"Our new complex in West Valley City marks our seventeenth Cinemark theatre and fourth Cinemark XD auditorium located in Salt Lake City," states Tim Warner, Cinemark's Chief Executive Officer. "We're excited to be opening our new cutting edge NextGen theatre just in time for our guests to enjoy all of this summer's highly anticipated movies."

The XD auditorium is Cinemark's big-screen concept, which usually offers a larger screen and an upgraded sound system over and above the other auditoriums, but no details were given about the screen size or sound system installed. The ticket pricing on the theater's web site shows that a Friday evening show in the XD auditorium is $11.25 for an adult, whereas the same movie at a similar showtime is $9.

The concession stand offers traditional choices of popcorn and snacks, as well as Coca-Cola beverages. A party room also is available for celebrations.

The closest theaters to this location are the Cinemark Valley Fair Movies 9, which appears to be showing second-run movies, the Megaplex Theatres at Valley Fair Mall and Carmike Ritz 15 - Hollywood Connection, both of which are showing primarily first-run movies.

Opening Weekend Events

The theater is celebrating its opening weekend by having a variety of events and promotions. The first 100 people at the theater when it opens on Friday, June 13 will get a Cinemark XD T-shirt. Local radio stations will be making an appearance Friday from 3pm - 7pm (AJ Carson/97.1 ZHT) and Saturday, June 14th from 11am - 1pm (DJ Erockalypze/U92).
