Dolby Publishes More Information About Home Version of Dolby Atmos

Posted on Saturday, June 28th, 2014 and updated on Monday, July 7th, 2014 5:36 PM

Dolby Atmos logoLast week, Dolby blew up with home theater enthusiast community by announcing that its Dolby Atmos sound system would soon come to living rooms. Manufacturers made announcements about support for the format in existing and upcoming A/V receivers, and hobbyist forums such as the excellent AVS Forums sprouted new conversations about how to implement it and guessing about the details that weren't included in the initial announcement.

Dolby has answered those concerns by providing some additional information on its web site, in the form of a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) article. This article addresses questions like:

  • How is Dolby Atmos different than typical channel-based home theater systems?
  • Do I have to install speakers in my ceiling?
  • How many overhead speakers do I need?
  • Will I have to replace my Blu-ray player or my HDMI cables?
