Sony Pictures Entertainment Acquires Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that it has acquired Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Founded in 1997, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has grown to more than 30 locations around the United States to become the seventh largest exhibition chain in the country. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2021 and was picked up that year by a private equity firm. It was reportedly being shopped around earlier this year. We have added two new searches to our Advanced Search tool. The first is for finding Movies Playing in ScreenX and the second is for Movies Playing in 4DX. About ScreenX ScreenX uses multiple projectors to display a 270 degree panoramic image which covers the sidewalls of the auditorium as well as the primary screen in front of you. Texas City, TX: Premiere Cinemas - Texas City PREMIERE LUX Cine 12 Now Open
The Premiere Cinemas - Texas City PREMIERE LUX Cine 12 in Texas City, Texas is now open to the public. Located in the Mainland City Center on Emmett F Lowry Expressway about 35 miles southeast of downtown Houston, the theater closed as the Cinemark Movies 12 in December 2021. This appears to be a soft opening, since only about six movies are playing at any given time and it's a 12-screen movie theater. Louisville, CO: Regal Cinebarre Boulder Closed, CU Boulder Plans Redevelopment
The Regal Cinebarre Boulder in Louisville, Colorado has closed. An article published recently by the Daily Camera (see below) mentions that the movie theater at the McCaslin Boulevard interchange with the Denver Boulder Turnpike closed May 23, 2024. It says that the University of Colorado Boulder purchased the building for $10 million and will be taking over June 15.
