You would think a movie that has this many stars in it would be top notch, but it is just so so. It was dragged out too long for the action involved. Really nothing to remark about this movie, rather a disappointment. Feb 13, 2014
For begin with, I didn't expect much from "The Monuments Men" and I was right. It startedf out very slowly, but I got very intresting in the second hour. This isn't George Cloony's best work, but still very intersting as well as entertaining. The film told the true story of people in the art world going to Eurpe to save artwork that was stolen from the Nazis. The Nazis warned that they will destroy the artwork if the Allies invade their country. The reason why they're doing this is to perserve artwork being that is being done over countless centuries. People will come back, but when art is destroy they won't come back. In a sense that movie kind of reminds me of "Hugo," when most of the lost footage of French directer George Melias were saved. Thanks to the men, lots of artwork were being save so that the peoiple of this gerneration and future generations will appreached their beauty of their work. Now that is what I call a happy ending. Rent it if you have a hard time going to sleep. It is boring, slow moving, and that's the good parts. Mar 2, 2014
Informative, sometimes funny, often sad or touching. I liked it. I thought it moved along well and was interesting. See it if art means something to you. Jun 3, 2014
A little slow at times, but for the most part it moved along nicely. Although it may have been based on a true story, this movie made it look way to easy to find and return stolen artworkwhile a war was raging on. I am glad there wasn't a lot of violence and it was a light-hearted representation of actual facts which made for a good movie. Nov 5, 2023
This is one of those movies that takes you off-guard. It’s not a traditional WWII movie, with the battle scenes and tanks and such. However, that doesn’t mean there are no heroic stories of courage here, because there are. George Clooney’s story builds an interesting narrative using a wry sense of humor to balance the seriousness of the proceedings. Just because it has to do with saving art doesn’t preclude it from stories of sacrifice and honor. Its slow pace can be off-putting if you’re expecting more action, but this is one of those movies you can watch from time to time. It’s a good choice for a movie night when you have guest and are looking for something worth watching. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for The Monuments Men. |
