Twentysomethings on New Years Eve in 1981 try to deal with lonliness and relationships. Advertised as sort of an 80s American Graffiti, I felt betrayed by the filmmakers, who obviously used this ploy as a gimmick to take advantage of 80s nostalgia. A couple of characters make reference to the year and theres enough 80s music to fill a soundtrack, but theres no other reason this movie wasnt set in the present. An awful screenplay and not much better acting bring it down even further. Dont ask me how Christina Ricci got involved in this mess. Ben Affleck receives top billing but only has a few scenes (again, rope that audience in). Theres only one funny line in the whole picture. Its uttered by Janeane Garafalo, who is also unfortunately relegated to but a cameo, but even she couldnt have saved this dog. Get an ash tray, put out your butt, and stay as far away from 200 Cigarettes as possible. 10-point scale rating: 2 Aug 30, 2006
A strong cast can\'t save \"200 Cigarettes,\" in a film that doesn\'t save much for this movie. \"200 Cigarettes\" is one cigarette too many. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for 200 Cigarettes. |
