Is this a film about Bill Gates and MicroSoft? Quite possibly, although the names have been changed. Gary Winston (Tim Robbins) is the president and founder of NURV, a company much like MicroSoft. His dream is Synapse, a project that will allow communications with all electronic devices around the world. It's an ambitious project that Gary hopes to roll out before his competition. Unfortunately, he is unable to meet his launch date without the help of the young genius Milo Hoffmann (Ryan Phillippe). The problem comes from the fact that at any time, someone working out of their garage could put NURV out of business and Gary makes sure that it never happens. The reason I liked this film was that it appealed to the geeky side while being easy on the eyes with the likes of Milo's girlfriend Alice (Claire Forlani) and fellow Synapse project worker Lisa (Rachael Leigh Cook). Plenty of suspense and intrigue kept me interested. Not quite knowing what would happen next or who the bad guys really were certainly helped. Bottom line, I wish I had a house like Gary's.
