If you're not into Dungeons & Dragons or don't like fantasy movies, don't go see this movie.

If you're expecting more than a B-movie, don't go see this movie.

If you want to go see the movie on the big screen and you have to pay full price, don't go see this movie. Go matinee price. You'll still want to buy caffinated soda to get you through the slow parts.

Finally, if you can wait six months for the movie to go to rental, don't go see this movie.

As to the movie itself, the story was weak. The acting was weak except for Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch. They overacted. A lot.

Two thieves as the main protagonists? It would've been more appealing to me if it had been a heroic warrior.

I was disappointed that dragons were treated as mere beasts. That's not a dragon to me. They're suppose to be incredibly supernatural, intelligent and powerful.

Why collect a group of adventurers together to go into a dungeon and then allow only one to enter and make it to the end. It would've been better if they all entered the dungeon, fought a few battles and then only one made it to the end.

The blue lipstick on the one villain was weird and the ranger's "nipply" armor was interesting to say the least.

The movie was apparently targeted for the younger crowd. The heroes, bright and shiny, were out doing noble deeds. The younger crowd would've enjoyed it and would've dismissed certain parts of the story that would be inconsistent with the older crowd, such as an empress wanting equality for all. Nice idea, but not likely to happen.

On the other hand the settings were great and the special effects were adequate, but for a movie to be good, it needs more than this.

The bottom line is, I think they could've done better and I don't know why they didn't.

This move is better for those who read Fantasy or play Dungeons and Dragons.
There are a lot of allusions that need more development otherwise. And one major item doesn't seem to me to be really accurate (for the D&D purist).

There also seems to be too much borrowing from other movies. Some good spots and screen shots, but in general the acting wasn't really good, and the dialog could have used improvement. Not having seen it at home, I don't know if the special effects are worth paying the price of a movie ticket, or if one should wait for it at the video rental store.

The graphics and effects were neat. I would recommend it for all ages.

It was very exciting and entertaining. Sound affects were ausumn. Some things really pop out at you.

Its really neat to go see it at a theater. Little ones would probably get scared.

I was a fan of D&D in the 80s. Some scenes brought some of that "magic" back to me, but mostly the movie just wasn't very good. The movie waffled between being serious and being a farce.

I would like to see a sequel by someone who would take it seriously and who could actually write.

I have the give this a "good" just because I'm a long-time D&D gamer.
We went to this movie expecting utter crap. So it wasn't that bad.

I agree with one of the other reviewers: The dragons had no personality, and they SHOULD have been the most intelligent and magical of all of the characters. The dwarf should have had more involvement, as should the elf. Bruce Payne should loose the lipstick AND would have made a better "main bad guy" character than Jeremy Irons as Profion. (Payne has such a cruel countenance.) The empress character was a bit too much like an extremely bland Queen Amidala.

Aside from that, it sticks to fairly classic D&D concepts. Has dragons; has a dungeon-crawl; has treasure; has fighting; has magic. They DID leave religion out of the picture, but that is fine because I could see things getting way to complicated otherwise.

Any fan of the genre should see it out of principle. Anyone else, wait for the rental.

A good-looking film, but everything else is bad in this cinematic reject of the role-playing game. Sure, the film's good to look at, but the acting and plot are dull. There's only one good scene inwhich one of the characters go though a tunnel. Otherwise the film pretty bad.
