A brilliant and intellectual film, start to finish. I love when a drama such as Arrival can keep the audience completely absorbed in the story. When a film respects the viewers enough to not reveal every single plot point at every turn, and instead lets the audience think for themselves. That is the mark of great cinema. That is the mark of Arrival.

"Arrival' is one serious Science fiction movie that will make you think, not about what's going on on the screen, but what you get out of life.it looks like a remake of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," it's much more than that. it's a movie that takes Science Fiction movie that take the genre to a whole new level. The movie open with aliens for no reason at all landed on Earth in 12 different locations around the world. Amy Adams plays a college professor who is assign to lead a group of scientists (including Jeremy Renner) to try to communicate with the aliens. they communicate with them though word and hey communicate them with symbols. And it's up to hem to figure out what the symbols are, and it won't be easy. Time is running out and the people on Earth are preparing to attack the ships. This is a beautiful photographed movie with a amazing movie score. it's one of the best science fiction movies that I saw in recent months. Since "The Day The Earth Stood Still" was released in 1951, people take science fiction movies seriously. "Arrival" is one movie that shows how serious we are to science fiction movies. Watching this movie will remind us, the thrill we get of sitting though a movie which challenging our mind and it's a very good thing.

I had high hopes for this movie, as I had heard/read many positive comments about it. I wasn't disappointed.

Amy Adams has the task of carrying this movie from beginning to end, and she accomplished this task with aplomb. She thinks her way through it, even while dealing with inner demons, and doesn't need the stereotypical "hero man" to save the day. Jeremy Renner is her colleague, but he takes a definite second-place position in this task of communicating with an alien species that didn't pack their universal translator before leaving.

Even though this deals with aliens and could easily be classified as a sci-fi movie, it's better classified as a drama, because that's what it is. The challenge of communicating with those that are different is put to the extreme here, but it's easy enough to see parallels with earth-bound beings.

I bought this movie, and I'm happy that I did. I can see watching it again, knowing what we do now about the entire story, and I think there are some layers that would reveal themselves upon subsequent viewings. The same can probably be said for director Denis Villeneuve's previous installment that I watched a few months ago, Sicario. These aren't simple, by-the-numbers movies, and my guess is that they improve with multiple viewings (I've noticed this with other movies, where my reaction is more tepid the first time around, and my impressions grow even more positive after watching it again).

I definitely recommend Arrival. It's worth watching!
