One of the best films of the year, with some of the best performances of the year, LADY BIRD is a triumphant directorial debut from Greta Gerwig! Check out my full thoughts here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlK_N-EL3lc Nov 29, 2017
Something was wrong w/this movie then it ended, then I felt my time sitting there was for nothing. If there is a Lady Bird 2 it would explain this movie. Dec 5, 2017
I've been following the career of Saorise Ronan since I first noticed her in "Atonment" way back in 2008. Since then, she made such an impression on me. If it wren't for her performance in "the Lovely bones," I would have never recommended the movie. In "Ladybird" she gives a fierce performance as a teen who is trap at a Catholic school taking on whatever gets in her way. she calls herself Ladybird (the title of the movie) because she dislike her name. She is front and center in this movie and her performance in the movie has impressed me. Laurie Metcalf is also great as her mother who like her daughter is also opinionated. the film is directed by Greta Gerwig who also wrote the screenplay. who like Ronan, I've been following for quite some time. A very well made and smart movie and I credited Saorise Ronan and Greta Gerwig for bring this movie to life. Feb 3, 2018
With a good script and great performances, Lady Bird tells an experiential human story. Personally, I wasn't able to connect with many of the characters as much as I'd have liked to, but the themes addressed are universal regardless. May 17, 2018
While I enjoyed this movie, and especially Saoirse Ronan's performance, I was never able to shake the fact that I was watching a movie instead of being immersed in the story. Perhaps director Greta Gerwig applied too heavy a hand, or maybe I just had difficulty getting into it completely because of external factors, but I was never fully drawn into the story. No matter how good the performances, and no matter how interesting the plot, if it can't draw me in, it can't get more than a Wait for Rental from me.
